St Stephen’s House is a community of mature students, which values learning, education and vocational training. We are situated in one of Britain’s greatest cities and one of the world’s finest universities, yet only a stone’s throw from the vibrant, multicultural Cowley Road with its shops, pubs and numerous restaurants.
St Stephen’s House came into existence over a century ago as a result of the Oxford Movement in the Church of England. From the start, our core business has focused on vocational and professional training and formation, and our more recent diversification to include students in Education reflects this.
The college has one of the largest communities of PGCE students in the University, and other postgraduate students pursuing both taught and research degrees in Education. Among our excellent facilities, we can offer car parking facilities (rare among Oxford colleges and halls), and the possibility of year-round accommodation. An early breakfast is provided during the week for PGCE interns. All our students have full access to college and University facilities, and are encouraged to play a full part in the community and social life of the college and Common Room. University sports facilities are located just minutes away.
St Stephen’s House is a popular choice for many PGCE students and other postgraduate students in Education, who value its intimate, friendly atmosphere, its quiet surroundings conducive to study, and its vibrant social life.
