The library is housed in the original reading room of the Cowley Fathers. It is open 24/7, with self-issue. It contains about 15,000 items: books, journals and pamphlets. The older collection reflects the history of the House and its role in the Oxford Movement. The modern collection supports student teaching and learning in Theology and latterly in Education as well. We are a lending library and aim to hold all core readings and set texts, and we encourage readers to recommend further acquisitions. There is remote access to the Bodleian’s union catalogue of holdings in most Oxford libraries, as well as to the many remote data bases offered.on SOLO.

St Stephen’s House is situated within fifteen minutes’ walk of the Bodleian Library, the main research library of the University of Oxford. The Bodleian is a copyright library, with a vast collection of books from the United Kingdom and overseas. It is used by scholars from around the world. Much material is available on open shelves and additionally almost any book from the storage facility can be ordered remotely to be delivered within a few hours to the reader’s choice of reading room.

The Philosophy and Theology Faculty library in the new Radcliffe Observatory Quarter is a helpful resource from which books can be borrowed . Pusey House nearby is a significant resource of Anglo-Catholic material: its chapel and music are renowned, and its library offers specialist collections and a beautiful reading room for reference only.
