Buildings and amenities

St Stephen’s House is situated in the bustling community of East Oxford but is a haven of tranquillity. Set in picturesque grounds, the college is fortunate to occupy buildings of great distinction and atmosphere, with its own beautiful house chapel and grade one listed Bodley church, linked by the quiet serenity of the cloister gardens.

There are also large communal gardens with a brick-built barbecue, picnic benches and a lawn used as a play area for children. As well as the option for full catering there is a large kitchen for use by residents. Students also have the benefit of a spacious and comfortable common room, supplied with newspapers and periodicals, including the Times Educational Supplement. There is a bar, open on Guest nights and Sunday lunchtimes during term-time.

The college kitchens provide three meals a day during the week, brunch on Saturdays and breakfast and a full Sunday lunch on Sundays. Families are always welcome at all meals, and members of the college often entertain other guests. Thursday evenings are guest evenings, to which visitors are especially welcome: the three-course candlelit dinner is followed by coffee and drinks in the Common Room. We pride ourselves on the high standard of the food on offer.

The University has prepared a brief video to provide guidance to students on the matter of dealing with fire - it is available here.
