Launch of the Endowment Appeal

A personal letter from The Principal, The Revd Canon Dr Robin Ward

I am excited to introduce to you the St Stephen’s House Endowment Appeal.

Over the past ten years the college has made tremendous progress to ensure that its educational work is properly resourced and its buildings maintained to the highest standards.  This has been made possible by the generosity of benefactors and the work of the College to make sure the institution is run as an efficient and cost effective enterprise for the benefit of its students.

It is now clear to the House Council that in order to build on this work the College needs its own Endowment, so that the whole work of teaching and learning here can be placed on a secure footing for the future. We need this Endowment to preserve our highly qualified teaching staff, to offer support to student candidates at a time when funding for ordinands in particular is under threat, and to ensure that our outstanding range of collegiate buildings is passed on in good order to future generations.

The College has set as a target the sum of £2.5 million for the Endowment Appeal. We think this is a realistic target, and one that will secure a regular investment income to secure our future.

I hope that you will want to support the St Stephen’s House Endowment Fund with a gift to the College. We welcome one-off gifts, regular donations and legacies, and the College development office will advise on the best way to support us in these ways. We are delighted that the University of Oxford has recognised the generosity of benefactors to St Stephen’s House through membership of the Chancellor’s Court of Benefactors and the Vice-Chancellor’s Circle.

However you give, your donation will be a significant contribution to the future of St Stephen’s House.

The Principal, The Revd Canon Dr Robin Ward
