I write to update you about the St Stephen’s House Endowment Appeal, which we launched this time last year with the aim of raising £2.5 million to provide long-term security for the work of teaching and learning here at the College.
I have been greatly encouraged by the number of old members who have responded positively to the campaign. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. This has helped us reach a total of £561,892 to date.
We launched our Endowment campaign with a pledge of £1 million from a benefactor, to be given when the appeal has raised £1 million. I hope that this appeal to our alumni community this Christmas might help us make a significant step towards raising the outstanding £438,108 needed to enable us to draw down the matching benefaction.
I believe this is achievable. For example, if every old member donated £10 a month for four years, we would reach this target. This is the subscription rate for the 1876 Society, which has been set up to enable old members and friends to support our work financially.
I hope that you will consider contributing towards this appeal. We welcome one-off gifts, but also regular donations, which I know may be a more practical way of giving for many of our old members. The College Development Office will be able to advise you on how to give if you would like to speak to someone, and contact details are provided at the end of this letter.
However you choose to give, and however much you are able to contribute, your donation makes a significant difference to the future of St Stephen’s House.
I do hope to see as many of you as possible at the 2017 Alumni Reunion on Friday 15th September 2017. This year I am keen to encourage individual old members to organise their own peer group or year group gatherings on the morning of the reunion. Please do contact the Development Office if this is something you would like to do.
With best wishes for Christmas and the New Year,
The Principal, The Revd Canon Dr Robin Ward, Christmas 2016
